These instructions summarize the basic principles of using the application and potential troubleshooting.
Description of the Application
The application is used to search for available contact persons in a house or building and make a call to the selected person. The person called can then remotely open the building door for the visitor.
All that is required to use the application is a smartphone with an internet browser. The phone must have the “Mobile data” function turned on.
No data that could identify the visitor is shared with the contact when the visitor is connected to the contact person. No mobile phone number, email or other identification data is transmitted.
Main functions
The main functions are searching for a contact person and calling the selected person.
The application allows searching for a contact person in several ways:
- Scrolling through the list of doorbells.
- By shortening the list to hide the contents of some bell groups. The bells of a group are hidden by clicking on the group row. Another click on the row expands the group again.
- By entering part of the text on the virtual bell in the text search field. When searching, only bell groups that contain a bell with the search text are displayed. Other groups are filtered out, including the group name. If the group list was collapsed before the search, only the group name is displayed, and clicking on it expands the filtered content with bells matching the entered text.
A call is initiated by tapping on the selected person/bell and confirming on the displayed screen with the options “Ring” and “Cancel”.
Some bells on the panel may be inactive (grayed out). It is not possible to call these contacts.
Technical Conditions for Using the Application
To connect a call with a contact, it is necessary to allow the use of the mobile phone’s microphone in the Internet browser’s permission settings. If the permission is not set, the application will prompt the user for permission to use the microphone. Setting this permission is described in more detail in the “Troubleshooting” section.
Troubleshooting Guide
Problem | Solution |
A blank page is displayed | Either the address saved in the QR code is invalid or the Administrator has deactivated the virtual doorbell panel. This problem must be resolved by the Service Administrator. |
All bells are grayed out and inactive | There was probably an error loading the doorbell panel. Try loading the panel again after a while. |
Some panel bells are gray | This status occurs if the contact person has not yet activated their account. You cannot call this contact person. |
You cannot ring the selected person because the browser does not allow the microphone to be used. | This problem can arise in several ways depending on the permission settings on your phone and also on your previous activities. For security reasons, turning on the microphone on your mobile phone is controlled at the application level. In the case of using the Q-Rune doorbell panel, this application is your chosen internet browser. A detailed description of the manifestations and instructions on how to enable the use of the microphone in the internet browser can be found in the text further below. |
Issues Related to Missing Permission to Use the Microphone in the Browser
The issues depend on whether you have previously confirmed this permission and, for example, whether you have also rejected the displaying of notifications in the future.
The message will be displayed when you confirm calling the selected person.
Query with the Option to Change Settings
The following message displays on your screen:
The text may vary depending on the type of mobile phone, operating system version and language setting. In this case, you can tap “Update permissions” to allow the use of the microphone. If you disable the microphone, the ringtone will stop. See the next screen shot.
If you select “Don’t ask again” on this screen and refuse to allow the use of the microphone, the application will not ask again and you will not be able to call the contact person.
If you have refused the permission by mistake, proceed to the chapter “Allow the use of the microphone in the system settings”.
Warning Message Regarding Missing Permissions
If your mobile phone is set to not display the option to allow the use of the microphone, the following message is displayed and the call is blocked:
In this case, it is necessary to change the permissions in the system settings of the mobile phone. See the chapter “Enable the use of the microphone in the system settings”.
Allow Use of the Microphone in System Settings
To set up permission to use the microphone it is necessary to go through the following steps in the menu:
- Settings
- Applications
- Your internet browser (Chrome, Safari, Samsung Internet, Firefox, …)
- Permissions (in Safari the “Microphone” item directly)
Allow use of the microphone in the settings.
If setting permissions at the application level did not help, it is possible that you have set an exception to the permission for a specific server in your browser. Instructions on setting exceptions to the permission can be found in the chapter “Allow microphone use for a selected server in browser settings”.
